Julian Acosta is a Bakersfield-born filmmaker whose poetic realist style is shaped by his complex upbringing, shifting faith, and love for raw, raucous music. He’s directed acclaimed commercials and music videos for artists like John Legend and The Roots and brands like Samsung, VW, Powerade and Delta. His work spans award-winning shorts like What Bitch? (HBO), the musical storytelling piece Aberdeen (now a feature in development), the experimental film The Seven Faces of Jane, and episodes of the period drama Coolie. He’s currently attached to Up River at Mandalay Pictures and the dramedy Alaska for Rough House Pictures. Julian’s work has been featured in The New York Times, NPR, Rolling Stone, and more.
